Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I have to be a member of the party to become a candidate?

A: Yes, you must be a member of the party to submit an Expression of Interest  to become a candidate.

Q: Is there cost involved in becoming a candidate?

A: Yes, Candidates are required by the Electoral Commission to pay a Candidate Nomination Deposit. The amount required varies depending on if it is for a Federal, State or Territory Election and is determined by the relevant Electoral Commission. There is also an application fee and the need for campaign materials. Candidates can expect to spend no less than $10,000 (through fund raising or other means) for a campaign.

Q: How much time is required for campaigning?

A: The simple answer is, “As much as you can manage”; however, the amount of time spent on campaigning, for the most part will be dependent on your ability to commit to it. We believe that there is a difference between ‘interest’ and ‘commitment’. Usually when someone is interested in doing something, they do it when it is convenient to do so, but when someone is committed to something, they are more driven to produce results.

Q: I’ve never been involved in any campaigns; if I were to become a candidate, is guidance provided?

A: Yes, All One Nation Candidates receive guidance and instruction along with tools like a social media page, a dedicated email address and a secure portal to access candidate information, guides, helpful information and requirements. In addition to this, you will have consistent written and verbal communication with the PHON Campaign team.  If you have a positive attitude, good work ethic and are committed to facing the challenges that come with being a Candidate, we will provide you with all of the guidance required.

Q: Are there and rules, requirements or information I need to be aware of that is relevant to being a candidate?

A: Yes, each State and Territory, as well the Federal Parliament, has specific legal & disclosure requirements set forth by law in regards to Candidacy as per relevant Acts and Legislation. Candidates should refer to the relevant Electoral Commission’s website (listed below) for more information. Also, applicants should always seek independent legal advice with any questions or concerns.
